Wedding DJ at La Tourelle Ithaca, NY
I have worked La Tourelle. The layout, the load-in, and the sound considerations are already accounted for before I arrive, which means your planning time goes toward your music and your timeline rather than logistics.
What I know about this room
A DJ walking into a room for the first time spends the first hour learning it. Where power is, how the ceremony space carries sound, where the booth can sit without blocking a sightline, how long load-in actually takes when the parking is full.
None of that is difficult. It is just time, and on a wedding day time is the one thing nobody has spare. Having worked La Tourelle before means that hour is already spent, and it was spent on a day that was not yours.
I arrive two and a half to three hours early regardless. At a venue I already know, that margin goes toward testing and detail rather than orientation. La Tourelle also sits directly in front of Firelight Camps, so if you are looking at one you may well be looking at both.
Capacity is 150
The dinner and dancing space you see above is on the smaller side, and the room caps at 150 guests. That matters for one specific reason: a dance floor does not fit in the dinner area, so where dancing happens has to be decided early rather than assumed.
Ceremonies in the yard
The outdoor ceremony space is genuinely one of the nicer ones in the area. It also means a separate sound setup from dinner, and a transition to plan between the two.
Dancing in a tent
For larger guest counts the dancing goes outside under a tent, which is also where cocktail hour happens. A smaller setup stays inside for dinner sound and toasts. I am running exactly that configuration at a La Tourelle wedding this January.
Load-in and the booth
Straightforward but tight: down a hallway and up through a small elevator at the back. The booth normally sits a few steps up in the bar area, overlooking the dinner floor. I would rather be on the floor with your guests, and at the last wedding I worked here the staff moved a table so I could set up down there. It made a real difference.
“Everything was perfect and we really appreciate all your help making sure the toasts and speeches went smoothly.”
What couples ask about La Tourelle
Answers from having actually worked the room, not from the venue’s brochure.
How many guests does La Tourelle hold?
The venue caps at 150. Because the dinner space is on the smaller side, a dance floor does not fit inside the dinner area, so the two have to be planned as separate spaces rather than one room that changes over.
Where does the dancing happen?
For smaller weddings it can work in the main space with the layout planned around it. For larger guest counts the dancing goes outside under a tent, which is the same space used for cocktail hour, so guests return to a room they have already been in rather than somewhere new. A smaller setup stays inside for dinner sound and toasts. I have run both, and which one suits you depends on your guest count and the time of year.
Can we have the ceremony outside?
Yes, and the yard is one of the better outdoor ceremony spaces around Ithaca. It does mean a separate ceremony sound setup and a planned transition to dinner, both of which I handle as a matter of course.
Is there somewhere for guests to stay?
There is a hotel on the property, and Firelight Camps is directly out back, which is a separate venue with its own accommodation. For a wedding with guests travelling in, that combination is genuinely useful.
Is load-in difficult for a DJ here?
Not difficult, just tight. Gear comes down a hallway and up through a small elevator at the back. It is completely workable once you have done it, which is part of why arriving two and a half to three hours early is a fixed part of how I work rather than a variable.
What is the staff like to work with?
Very good. At the last wedding I worked here I asked about moving my booth down onto the floor rather than staying up in the bar area, and they moved a table to make it happen. That kind of flexibility is worth knowing about when you are planning.
